I have always tried very hard to be a good person, a hard worker and good parent. I have worked in a special education classroom for 12 years, making many efforts to help our students on many levels. My husband and I have raised 3 foster children (a sibling group we didn’t want to separate) from age 5 to almost adulthood (they are 17 and juniors in high school). We have another daughter who is in college and works with special ed students also.
Last year I became very ill. It was very scary because we didn’t know what was happening, but after much pain, tears, and doctor visits, I was diagnosed with kidney failure. This happened because of chemotherapy I had as a young woman. At age 23 (when my husband was serving in Desert Storm), I had lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes) and the chemotherapy treatment, over time, damaged my major organs, mostly my kidneys.
For almost a year, I have been recieving treatment for my kidneys, plus I have worked very hard to lose weight, exercise, removes stress, and change my life. I am proud to say that I have lost over 100 pounds, my kidneys are working much better, and I am enjoying life again.
When I was ill, like many people, I made a wish list of places (or activities I wanted to try)I wanted to visit before I passed away. I still have the list and I have accomplished a few of them. I have read extensively on the Mayan history and culture; one of wishes was to see Belize and specifically the caves that held the Mayan relics. The Mayan culture is amazing and one could study it for a lifetime!
If I win this reward, I promise to enjoy every moment of it, bring back as much knowledge and experience and share it with my students, family, and friends. Thank you for your consideration!
