Corozal Belize – One of the best places to retire outside the United States

13 February 2011 2 Comments
Corozal District in Belize has been selected as one of the best places to retire outside the United States by AARP. AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that helps people 50 and over to improve the quality of their lives.

The district capitol, Corozal Town, is located nine miles from the Mexican border and was a Maya river and sea trade centre. Situated alongside Corozal Bay, it enjoys a pleasant climate and is known as an easy going place to relax and use as a base for exploring Belize or to come and go from Mexico.

AARP said the following about Corozal:

The convenience of Belize sets it apart — the official language is English, it’s very easy to get residency status and they offer tons of special benefits to retirees.

Oh, and it’s got some pretty amazing scenery — lush forests and picturesque white-sand beaches.

“It’s got fantastic beaches,” Budd said. “Classic warm weather, lots of great outdoor swimming, boating and biking — there’s a high pleasure factor there,” he said. “And you get it a lot cheaper than you would in, say, California.”

One American couple built a ranch with a water view for $125,000, AARP said.
