Just like Cecilia and Robert, I had a similar dream! I just turned 71 this week and have had many wonderful years here so far.
Belize is full of adventure and many wonderful charms which I have grown to know and love! The culture is rich and diverse, and I have made many wonderful friends over the nine years of living here in Cayo. I came with a friend on vacation in the late 90's, brought my son back on a second vacation, quickly made a few friends and started making plans to retire here. Things do just fall together... it's just the Belizean way. I stayed at a nice adventure oriented bed and breakfast and asked about living in the area, it turns out the owners were looking to lease the place to do some adventuring of their own... I ended up running the lodge for two years, building an adobe house and settling in to the community. It's great to be able to go to Yoga classes, monthly women's gatherings, helping with the library, working on environmental awareness programs and so on. Never a dull moment! Gardening - OH MY GOD!
I must say I got a little excited and bought more than I need - so some lucky retiree might enjoy a piece of property I have for sale - 10 acres on the road to El Pilar ruin, and a nice Adobe home in Bullet Tree Falls.
I would be happy to share my experiences of moving to Belize if you want to write me personally on my website.
You can check out the Adobe house for sale too!

Happy Belizing!
