Chaa Creek Recommends Christmas Presence as Best Present
A trend of sharing presence rather than giving presents is on the rise as people are increasingly swapping experiences over material gifts for Christmas, leading to an increase in couples and families travelling overseas for the holidays, according to the marketing administrator of a popular Belizean eco resort.
Larry Waight, of the Lodge at Chaa Creek, said more and more guests are saying that they are making their Christmas time bookings as presents for their families or loved ones, eschewing the more traditional gifts in favour of sharing time together in an exotic location.
“It’s a definite trend, and one that is growing stronger each year,” he said. “We’ve already had enquiries this year about making bookings as a Christmas gift, and I expect we’ll see more in the coming months.
“I think it shows a healthy shift in values, especially among families and couples, as people are placing greater emphasis on spending quality time together, sharing adventures and creating lasting memories,” he said.
Mr Waight said that a popular gift is Chaa Creek’s all-inclusive Belize Christmas vacation package, as it includes everything for a complete Christmas in Belize under one affordable price.
“It seems that positive word of mouth is driving many of these enquiries, as people say their bookings are based on a recommendation from a friend or family member who was here previously, which makes sense as many people don’t realise how affordable an all-inclusive Belize vacation package really is,” he said.
Chaa Creek’s all-inclusive Christmas vacation packages include luxury accommodation, and all meals as well as a wide range of activities and access to all features in the 365 acre private rainforest nature reserve, such as the Belize Natural History Centre, a butterfly farm, Maya Medicinal Plant Trail and Maya Organic Farm, Hill Top Spa and infinity pool, as well as all transfers, government taxes and staff gratuities.
“We’re called a ‘destination within a destination, because once you’re here you can have a complete affordable Belize experience, hiking, horseback or mountain bike riding along our vast network of jungle trails with over 70 Maya archaeological sites and temples, canoeing the Macal River, taking a guided nature tour, exploring the beautiful tropical gardens or just lounging by the pool or on your own veranda with a good book and a cool drink.
“We’ve designed our vacation packages to ensure that there’s something for everyone, from adults to toddlers, with even grandparents and the fussiest teens finding plenty to do,” Mr Waight said.
Christmas in Belize, an English speaking former British crown colony bordered by the Caribbean Sea and Mexico and Guatemala to the west, is known for its unique combination of the familiar with the exotic.
“With the Christmas trees, decorations, carols, turkey dinners and all the other trimmings, it’s a very familiar Christmas for North Americans and Europeans, but there is a distinctly Belizean flavour, what with the lilt of Caribbean Creole language, the Spanish fiesta feel, and being able to swim on Christmas day. All of Belize really comes alive, and here at Chaa Creek we’re definitely in Yuletide mode for most of December,” Mr Waight said.
“And by leaving all the details to us, from cooking, cleaning, organising the tree and decorations and providing a wealth of healthy and relaxing activities, and with no hidden costs or surprises to worry about, it’s a very carefree and affordable Christmas for everyone.
“We do, however, encourage guests to help us decorate the tree, join in carols and generally help celebrate,” he said.
“Sometimes people sharing their sharing presence is the best present of all,” he said.
