Why I Want to Learn About Biodiversity and Conservation

By: Javier Bol,  — years old

The following is a submission of one of our applicants to this year’s Chaa Creek Eco Kids Summer Camp.

Officially known as the Children’s Summer Camp Scholarship Program, the annual event gives 24 young Belizeans between the ages of 8 and 13 a chance to learn about their natural world through a mix of adventure, social interaction, fun and hands-on education aimed at instilling a sense of wonder and responsibility for the environment.

The Eco Kids are selected after submitting a 300 word written essay which is reviewed and shortlisted by the Chaa Creek scholarship committee with the winners going on to attend the summer camp.

Chaa Creek will be providing all lodging, three healthy meals and snacks each day, structured educational activities, arts and craft materials, tee shirts, 24-hour camp counselor supervision, and guided tours conducted by licensed naturalist guides.

Good luck potential Eco Kids!

WHY I WANT TO BE AN ECO-KID

Eco Kids Summer Camp 2013

While I was reading a book on ecosystem I became interested in the biodiversity, natural resource, conservation and the three ‘r’ reduce, reuse and recycle. I am very concerned about our ecosystem because we need to find a way of living, one that creates less pollution of the earth’s atmosphere and can lower the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere of the earth called global warming.

I would like to become an eco-kid so I can learn more about the biodiversity, natural resource, conservation and the three ‘r’ reduce, reuse and recycle. I also want to teach my community about these things, instead of contributing to pollution of the environment and global warming and the changes of the earth’s climate, pollutants such as car and factories that make easier, but are the main cause of global warming and natural disaster on the earth. To prevent these we must reduce pollution and to take care of our planet for future generation by the use of the ‘r’ reduce, reuse and recycle.

I am aware of the importance of conservation and proper stewardship of our planet earth. The importance of keeping our earth clean and keep it from unwanted pollutants such as garbage disposal, factory waste and air pollution by putting the garbage in drums, less factory activity and less smoke.it is my hope that through the educational process I can learn how to do less pollution on earth so we as children can become sustainable by keeping our environment clean by recycling bottles, reusing bottles for water and reduce the pollution by burning less fuels, so and that the future generation can enjoy. We as caretakers of  our planet need to become involved and participate in activities that makes us knowledgeable in proper care of earth  and environment.
