After a delicious breakfast, the eco-campers began to collect leaves, plants, and many other interesting natural things they could use to create a unique cover for their jungle journal. These journals were not merely for presentation value as campers immediately began using them to write down contact information for their new friends, thoughts on the camp so far, and enlightening facts that they learned throughout the day, during their other fun experiences.

This camp is said to positively change kid’s feelings towards the health of our environment, an experience like never before. I would love to get a chance to experience this for myself for I know I am an Eco-kid at heart. In my life I have seen many bad things being done to harm our environment and it being treated like it has no meaning, thus I can no longer bear to look past each of them. I want to make a change; I want a better and more eco-friendly future for everyone instead of pollution and neglect.

My name is Charissa Barnes, I am a girl. I am a twelve years old standard five student of All Saints Primary School. I live with my Mother and Father in Lord’s Bank Village and I am the eldest of three children – one sister and one brother. My hobbies include reading, listening to music and playing my keyboard, which I am currently being trained to do.

As a kid I would want to help save our environment but I can’t do it alone. It takes more than one person but it starts with me. I will be eco friendly to help save the planet and so I could live in a greener and safer world. Eco friendly is not doing anything to hurt yourself or the world you live in. A family that goes green together stays together.

By becoming an eco kid, I will equip myself with the knowledge I need to know how to better care for growing plants and to protect the animals and their habitats. By being an eco kid, I could be given a life learning experience.

I enjoy learning about animals and plants. By learning about nature, I will be able to encourage my friends to do the same and appreciate nature for what it is. By doing that, they will recycle, and see nature how I see it as a wonderful place where there are things still to be discovered. They will want to protect it too. This is why I want to be an eco kid.

I want to spread the news about going green and keeping the environment clean. When I see people wasting water I think about the people who don’t have water. I want to try to conserve water.

The global warming implications are not only affecting the plants and animals but also us, human beings. The last five years in Belize has been very hot and this is not good. I have notice that deforestation is increasing, pollution is increasing as well as our country’s population and if we continue in this unsustainable path, we will head to ecological disaster.

Being an Eco-kid would be an absolute honor. Being an Eco-kid would make a part of something big and great, something that could help. So what I am saying is I am a responsible ten year old who wants to help. I would do anything to be an Eco-kid. To be a part of something that would make me feel better if I knew I had done something to help.

I really don’t have any real camping experience but I will learn. I heard that Chaa Creek is the best resort in Belize and the world. I always wanted to visit Chaa Creek and be a part of its prestigious history. I hope I get a chance to ride a horse, it is one of my favorite fantasies. I’ve never been on a camp trip before and being an Eco-kid will be one of the greatest experiences in my life that I will cherish forever.

This year is the “New Beginning” for the Maya. I love to climb Maya temples and see the jungle from a new dimension. Imagine if I found an Ancient Maya spear head, clay pot or jade artifact? There is so little that is known about the Ancient Maya it would be amazing to find cool stuff to show the world and tell their story.

I want to be an Eco Kid because I want to make a positive difference in my beautiful country Belize. I strongly believe that it is young people like myself that will play an instrumental role in the future of Belize and the lessons that will be taught in this camp will lay down the foundation to equip me with the proper knowledge to make the changes.

We are stewards of our home, Earth. Planet Earth is the greatest treasure God created and we need to appreciate it as our own kingdom of happiness. As guardians of our planet, everyone of us needs to make it our goal to protect and preserve all that our Earth encompasses. The forest, it’s flora and fauna, our rivers and seas, our atmosphere all depend on us, it’s inhabitant, to let it remain for our future generations. Becoming an Eco kid will give more reasons to want to care for our environment.

I would like to be an Eco kid and be able to go to the Eco Kids Camp because this camp looks as much fun as when I went to Cub Scout Camp at Camp Oakley. Being a cub scout I get to do a lot of activities outside at our meetings. As cubs scouts we look after nature and learn to take care of it by doing garbage cleanup and planting trees around our community. We also have fun with other scouts by playing games and learning to share with them.

This summer camp will help me because the flora and fauna of Belize live in our environment and I want to immerse myself in it. Recently in Houston, Texas I was part of an eco team that built a green house and we went around picking garbage and when we would find a plastic bottle we would put it in the recycle bin.

I want to be an eco-kid because I like this planet, but lately I have started to not like if so much. The earth is supposed to be beautiful, but with all the garbage on our streets, in the drains, and on the sidewalks, it is a little – no, not a little, a lot less beautiful. When we leave garbage everywhere, people will not want to visit our city. That will bring down our tourism and hurt our economy.
