Last week we made a surprise visit to Bishop Martin R.C. School in the Santiago Juan Layout, San Ignacio Cayo. Principal Abimael Waight, teachers and 468 students happily welcomed the pack-a-pound program team. Mr. Waight said that the school will make good use of all the materials received. Items donated were: colouring pencils, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, sketch pads, water paint, brushes, scissors, book covers, paper folders, exercise books and crayons.

The Belize government is planning to build a new international airport at Ambergris Caye while improving La Isla Bonita’s infrastructure. Prime Minister Dean Barrow said that the government will “redevelop, redesign and expand” the Basil Jones airstrip into a new international airport. The upgrade of the airstrip to an international airport is part of an on-going development that is making travel to, from and within Belize easier for Belize’s ever-growing legion of global fans. Whether from North America, Europe, the UK, Asia or anywhere on the planet, travellers can now spend more time enjoying Belize’s many charms and less time getting to and from them.

The Consulate of Belize in Florida has joined forces with the Office of Special Envoy Belize to support children’s health by hosting a “See & Taste Belize” Festival to be held in Miami October 10th 2015. T he festival will raise money for Belize’s first, and much needed, Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Although the 2015 Eco-Kids SummerCamp is officially over, the lessons learned and the knowledge obtained about how to be ecologically sustainable and responsible will never leave the campers. But, more importantly, the bonds these campers made with each other, the counselors, and the Chaa Creek staff are now well molded!
