Our final day we spent hikng around the resort followed by a horseback riding tour with Robert- who was incredible. We were beginners, he took us through the trails of the property and provided some good Mayan history lessons, too. You really can’t beat riding a horse through the amazing jungle trails.

This is a belated review, but last March, we spent several days at Chaa Creek and had a wonderful time. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Well-maintained and immaculate. We were astonished by how luxurious it was, while at the same time, feeling that you were far, far away from it all. A few observations first: We were all impressed at how nice and smart the Belizian’s were and while we had overcast -damp weather and no sun every day, it never interfered with our excursions- thankfully. This is a beautiful eco-lodge where you will feel like you are in the middle of the rainforest. We stayed in the cottage room and it was beautiful! The room and bathroom are very spacious and beautifully decorated. We also enjoyed cocktails and dinners on our private balcony. It was like having a jungle symphony every night. We could hear howler monkeys, birds and cicada bugs (which sound like loud crickets). The food in the restaurant is amazing.

I stayed at the Macal River Camp and it’s a fantastic deal – there is no electricity in the cabins, but the staff light oil lamps at night for you and there is electricity in the shared bathrooms/showers (which also have hot water!) All hotel amenities are available, there are lots of activities, the spa is incredible. The staff is extremely helpful and accomodating and it’s really cool to hear all the jungle sounds at night!
