A friend of mine had visited Belize in the early seventies and came back raving about it. Belize was a tropical paradise, she told me, with unspoiled beaches, lush forests, Mayan ruins, and an incredible network of caves. The people in Belize were kind and friendly and interested in the visitors who came to see their country. Mexicans, sad to say, tended to be overwhelmed by too many tourists and a bit jaded. But best of all, in Belize they spoke English.

I love to travel; I enjoy birding, trekking through the rain forest searching for mammals, discovering new plants, exploring ruins of ancient civilizations, snorkeling, scuba diving, and learning about the history, culture, and meeting the people of a new country. Chaa Creek offers all of this and so much more. I also love that the Lodge offers professional naturalist birding guides to help spot the over 300 species of birds that live in Belize. I have no doubt that the Lodge at Chaa Creek will offer a professional staff for any need or question.

Being a typical guy, I was darting through the pages quickly, musing at the pictures of couples snorkeling in islands that were way beyond our budget. Of course, I wasn’t intentionally trying to be cheap on my honeymoon, but after looking at the prices compared to what you get, I felt like I could do better with my money. When I finished musing over the “South Pacific” chapter and entered the “Caribbean” chapter, Belize just stood out straight from the pages. Beautiful scenery with over-water bungalows illuminated by candle-light dinner… hey even I was beginning to get all emotional and getting the goosebumps, not to mention my fiancé. So, jotting down some website addresses and price ranges, I went home to research further.

I had chosen the
former British Honduras for a research project to enhance my teaching
style and resources as an elementary teacher in Chesterfield County,
Virginia. And what a success it was!

Belize is my favorite place in the whole world! My love affair with Belize began when my brother-in-law got married and they chose Ambergris Caye as the place they wanted to have their wedding. Needless to say, with the white sand beaches and beautiful deep blue waters, their wedding was picture perfect and provided us with some gorgeous photos and wonderful memories.

We are seriously involved in bird education and rescue and going to Belize would give us an opportunity to see parrots and other birds in their natural habitat. Staying at one of the most highly regarded and awarded Belizean eco resorts would be a dream come true. We have researched such vacations extensively and so far have been unable to afford one, although we have a plan in place to pay off our debt and take such a vacation in a few years.

I want to go to Belize and do everything and see everything and know just how amazing everything is. I think I would like to go with my good friend Lauren, and we would not waste an opportunity like this. We would go snorkeling and jet skiing, and even visit the zoo and if anybody in this world deserves to do these things, I think Lauren and I would make good candidates. I think that Lauren is a good person and that she deserves something like this. You see, being college students we both live our daily routine lives working hard to get somewhere we’re not sure of yet. But for now, Belize would be a great temporary destination.

My boyfriend and I were planning our trip to Belize today and noticed this amazing opportunity to be a part of an Eco-tourism package. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend our vacation than at the luxury resort of Chaa Creek learning to how improve and conserve the environment that we love so much.

In a dream I am walking the Mayan Rainforest Trail through the vast nature reserve of Chaa Creek. My feet make no sound in the soft leaf litter. All my senses are alive. Strange, gloriously colorful birds flit through the green canopy, and animals I have seen only in pictures peer out at me from the thick foliage of the forest floor. The plants are not familiar to me, yet I sense their powerful beneficence.

I have never been to Central America but since I have discovered the Chaa Creek website I am dreaming about going to Belize. This wonderful small country combines all the wonders of the world like stunning beaches, pre-Colombian sites or luxurious jungle.
