A Dream Deferred No Longer

During the summer of 2000, a friend and I decided to save our earnings for an adventure in Belize. At 21, I had yet to explore anywhere outside of the United States, and I was ready to see more of the world. I worked the early-morning shift in the stockroom of a national retailer, and then I would work on the weekends at a gift shop. When I found out my friend hadn’t saved very …

I am 30 years old, and I’ve been exploring the natural world since before I could walk. My parents took me “swimming” in rivers as an infant and hiking through snowy woods as a toddler. As I got older and moved away from home, my time was focused on obtaining an education, and I spent too much time inside. Now that I have almost completed a long road to the start of my career, I …

Location, Location, Location.
How many places are there in the world where you can sleep right in the middle of a jungle, and with minimal travel time visit Maya temples, swim with dolphins, visit caves, and see majestic waterfalls?
Within the boundaries of the 365 Chaa Creek private reserve, you can go horseback riding, possibly see over 300 species of birds, take a canoe trip, go hiking, go mountain biking, tour a butterfly farm, walk …

As long-time travelers to Belize, friends at Victoria House recommended we experience the unique and eco-friendly Lodge at Chaa Creek.  The chic palmthatched Orchard Villa was our home during the 4-day stay that included a wide array of activities.  From the archeological exploration by horseback of the vast nature reserve, the tour of the on-site Mayan farm, to the Butterfly Farm, each day was full of incredible experiences.   Olivia (our child) was given her own  butterfly chrysalis to keep …

Several years ago a friend told me about her travels to Belize, and ever since I have wanted to visit the country for myself. The pure beauty of the countryside itself is reason enough to want to go, but the rainforest and waterfall excursions, the activities like canoeing and mountain biking, and the history of the region with the Mayan temples are even more reason I would love to go to Belize! I would also love to base my …

The Lodge at Chaa Creek is the best Belize vacation destination and here’s why.  When I sat down to plan our family vacation, it seemed like an impossible task — I had to please everyone in our family!  You see, tired Mom (that’s me!) wanted some pampering and rejuvenation.  My husband wanted excitement and activity on our getaway.  Vacation priorities of my two young sons involved exploring and swimming.  And all of us share a deep passion for discovering, …

We visited Chaa Creek last summer and since then have been dreaming about returning – this time with a larger group!  The place was so wonderful we want all of our family to experience it.
When you stay at Chaa Creek, you feel very close to nature.  You fall asleep to the sound of croaking frogs and awaken to singing birds.  The grounds are landscaped with palms and tropical fruit trees, and iguanas live among the …

I would love to visit Chaa Creek with my family, because I want my children to understand that traveling means meeting new people and opening one’s eyes to a different place and different cultures. We have two girls, and I’ve been looking for a great place to vacation and avoid the overt commercialism of some family vacation places. Basically, I want a princess-free holiday with my girls. I want them to feel good about themselves for trying new adventures, …

Searching for the special place to spend our 30th wedding anniversary, my husband and I immediately thought of Belize.  We have never been to Central America before but it was on our bucket list.  The Lodge of Chaa Creek website caught our attention.  Intrigued by this 365 private reserve situated in a lush rainforest surrounded by panoramic views of the Mayan Mountains I knew this was the perfect setting for nature lovers such as ourselves.  Voted …

Adventurous eaters eager for a taste of The Lodge at Chaa Creek
We live in Phoenix, Arizona and have had opportunities to spend time in neighboring Mexico. It has only whetted our appetites to explore farther into Central and South America. We delight in experiencing new places and cultures.   As an amateur photographer and closet bird-watcher, capturing the beauty and luxury of The Lodge at Chaa Creek, the Rainforest, the Mayan ruins and the …

When I was in the 6th grade, I did a research report on Belize.  I spent months on that report, every day dreaming of it’s climate that was much unlike our own.  That was the year I met the man I’m going to marry.  Now, all these years later I find my mind returning to Belize.  It’s just another thing to tie me back to the roots of the relationship.
Years ago, when Bret was 10 and …

The Lodge at Chaa Creek is a place that I would love to visit. Its environment and history has drawn me to the area along with its rich culture. I have yearned to visit the ruins and beaches of the Belize for some time.
As a frequent traveler, I have gone on safaris, hiked volcanoes, toured the Great Pyramids, shopped at the Grand Bazaar, watched the fireworks in Sydney, performed in Salzburg, and swam in …

After we had returned to Caye Caulker from our three nights at Chaa Creek, we sat on the porch of our rented house, discussing our favorite moments in Belize so far. We had spent five nights on Caye Caulker before going to Chaa Creek and had another two nights ahead of us before we headed back to North Carolina. Our experience at Chaa Creek was not only the best we had in Belize, but one …

Belize Vacation Sweepstakes (Essay#20)

After reading about others’ adventures, I had to investigate Chaa Creek for myself. The magnificent website looks just like a photo spread in Conde Nast or National Geographic. I spent several hours looking through the info on the site, and learning about a side of Belize that I hadn’t really come across before. We have also read through the different travel packages offered by Chaa Creek, and I have to say each one looks more amazing than the one before it.

Even at night there is the Creatures of the Night Walk that lets you get a first hand look at even the nightlife of the wilderness. It doesn’t even matter what time of the year you travel they have packages to meet all of your needs. For example the Chaa’s Creek Christmas package is something you can do with your family and still feel like its the holidays. They even put their touch to it and incorporate nature into that too by seeing the decorated trees garlanded with seeds and fruits. Giving you the spirit of Christmas but the heart of Belize. Its those little touches to give you that home feeling with a sense of adventure I have to say I admire and crave the most.

In a time when global and environmental change is occurring at such a rapid pace, it‘s becoming more and more difficult to escape the hustle-and-bustle of city life and to experience the natural world. From time to time, we need to get away from our manmade, city lives and to visit parts of the world with a slower pace and a deeper closeness to nature.  When we are immersed in nature- without the distractions of …

I had the pleasure of visiting Belize City for 9 short hours this past November while on a Holland America Ship that graced your port. It was a whirl wind tour with a fabulous guide who took us up into your rain forest for a day of tubing and a lovely lunch. I very much wish to come back to your beautiful country to explore more fully Belize and her lush rain forests with my family. I’ve been telling my …

I have always tried very hard to be a good person, a hard worker and good parent. I have worked in a special education classroom for 12 years, making many efforts to help our students on many levels. My husband and I have raised 3 foster children (a sibling group we didn’t want to separate) from age 5 to almost adulthood (they are 17 and juniors in high school). We have another daughter who is in college and works with …
