Vacation Sweepstakes – Essay#34

My wife and I have never visited Central America together, although we’ve been lucky enough to travel to some great places. We love to meet other travelers and to meet local people and learn about the history and culture of a new place. We love to have laughs, see authentic things, eat great food, enjoy some cold beverages at the end of a day of exploring; The Lodge at Chaa Creek seems like exactly the kind of place where we could really enjoy ourselves. I am a photographer, and I would love to have the opportunity to photograph this unique place and really do it justice, along with photographing the tour destinations within reach from the lodge.

I have read the postings from others who have already visited Chaa Creek, and it seems like the kind of place that really gets inside of you. The descriptions of the sounds, the smells, and the experiences are so specifically described, and I would love to check it out and make our own experiences there. I am specifically interested in visiting the Mayan sites with my wife.

Mostly, it is very important to us that we travel to a place that is ecologically responsible. We do not want to destroy a beautiful place in order to see it and enjoy it. So often, tourism means bombarding a special environment and taking away the things that made it special.

In our research, Chaa Creek came up again and again in blogs, in forums, and in reviews from very, very happy travelers who have been lucky enough to stay at Chaa Creek. I am very hopeful that we will win this contest and have an opportunity to add our raves to the others after what I am sure would be a most memorable, once-in-a-lifetime vacation.
