Chaa Creek is one of those places that you don’t think exists until you actually go there. Set in the middle of the jungle, you feel like you’re in a whole new world. I went to Chaa Creek almost 10 years ago, with my family, when I was sixteen. Now I’m getting married and we want to have a destination wedding. Most destination weddings take place on the beach, but we wanted something different. We are adventurers. We want to spend all day exploring Mayan ruins and come back to a comfortable bed under a thatched roof. I thought back to a place I had visited many years ago, and new that Chaa Creek had all that we imagined and much, much more.
Some of my favorite memories of our family vacation to Belize includes the many exciting things to do on the grounds of Chaa Creek. I remember swimming in the Macal River with my mom and the water so clear that we could see the fish below. I also remember the Mayan woman who was our guide along the Medicine Trail and pointed out all of the plants used for medicinal purposes. But my favorite thing was the butterfly farm, because beautiful, blue butterflies were extremely attracted to my dad’s grey hair and kept landing on his head.
Jake and I have been together for over five years. During the time we have travelled to many wonderful places including: Mexico, Italy, and Argentina. We want to spend the rent of our lives seeing the world. I cannot think of a better place than Chaa Creek to get married and start our new adventure together. We want to hike, canoe, horseback ride and laugh with our two best friends at our sides. Winning this Eco-Adventure contest would give us the opportunity to help pay for our two best friends to be here with us. Since we are paying for our wedding ourselves, this would help make our fantasy become our reality. I can’t wait to go back to Chaa Creek and show my fiancé and friends this enchanted place!
