Breaking the cycle of annual family vacations to the beach, this year we decided to go on a family adventure to Belize. After looking over all the possible vacation spots, we chose to spend the first part of our trip at Chaa Creek Lodge and we couldn’t have been happier. I’ve traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Southeast Asia and can honestly say that Chaa Creek Lodge offers the best accommodations I have ever seen.
Upon checking in my family convened at the bar, which offers a great community atmosphere complete with plentiful decorations, local music, board games, and an incredibly friendly staff. We then retired to our lodge which reminded me of the Robinson Carusoe style housing, offering a two story, excellently modeled wooden home. Our family had a great time telling stories and discussing our trip in this beautiful home!
The next morning we were greeted with the warm sunshine over the infinity reflecting pool, an excellent breakfast, and a horseback riding trip along the Chaa Creek property. Our guide on this trip was great, calming my mom’s fears about horseback riding and showing my dad all the Mayan ruins he had been looking forward to seeing.
After much debate, our second day held a family trip to the ATM caves. While I was initially terrified about spending 3 hours inside a cave, it turned out to be one of the most eventful experiences of my life. It’s not every day that you can say you waded in water through a cave with a headlamp and saw ancient Mayan relics!
Sadly, we had to leave after only a few days, but overall, Chaa Creek provided us with an incredibly memorable adventure that I know my family will remember for quite a while!
