After we had returned to Caye Caulker from our three nights at Chaa Creek, we sat on the porch of our rented house, discussing our favorite moments in Belize so far. We had spent five nights on Caye Caulker before going to Chaa Creek and had another two nights ahead of us before we headed back to North Carolina. Our experience at Chaa Creek was not only the best we had in Belize, but one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. It was hard for me to pin down my favorite moment in Belize, but each that came to mind centered on our time at Chaa Creek.Perhaps it was when we first arrived on the lodge’s property, the absolute sensory overload of being in a place so beautiful and so exotic. The air was palpable and full of new sounds and my eyes reveled in the riot of greens around me. Then I thought of the moment we decided to extend our stay at Chaa Creek by a night. This moment occurred within minutes of our first arrival and was almost as exciting as getting there. My wife mentioned our serene canoe trip down the Macal River and into San Ignacio and our traveling companions remembered our adventures to ATM and Xunantunich. While it was impossible to name just one favorite moment, we all agreed that Chaa Creek was the true attraction. Just being amongst the beauty of the 365 acre reserve and around the friendly and accommodating staff was worth the trip inland. If you haven’t gone, you should go. We have gone and we will go again.
