The Lodge at Chaa Creek, Belize’s eco resort in the Heartland of the Maya, continues to enjoy a fine start to 2011 with another prestigious recognition – this time as finalist in the Condé Nast Johansens Excellence Awards.
Lesley O’Malley-Keyes, Conde Nast’s vice president and Publishing Director recently announced the awards in a letter to Chaa Creek management.
“Dear Mick and Lucy, I am pleased to tell you that The Lodge at Chaa Creek is one of only three finalists in the category of Most Excellent Lodge – Mexico and Central America chosen from our portfolio of more than 270 hotels.
“The Lodge at Chaa Creek is also one of four finalists in the category of Most Excellent Eco Resort – Mexico and Central America,” Ms O’Malley Keyes wrote.

She added that Chaa Creek was featured in a double page ad in March edition of Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
“We‘re very grateful to receive another recognition from one of the world’s most prestigious travel and lifestyle magazines,” Chaa Creek proprietor and GM Lucy Fleming said.
Conde Nast had previously included The Lodge at Chaa Creek in its Gold List 2010, which lists the “best places to stay in the world”. It was the third year running Chaa Creek received the distinction.
“When you consider how highly regarded Conde Nast is as a global travel authority it is a real honour indeed to have been recognised by them and their readers through the years. Chaa Creek has grown over the last three decades from our small family farm, and the fact that it has grown into something recognised as world class is very satisfying, and says a lot about our staff ,” Ms Fleming said.
The Lodge at Chaa Creek is set in a 365 acre private nature reserve in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. It houses a Natural History Centre, Hilltop Butterfly Farm, Conference Centre and Spa, Maya temple and archaeological sites and offers a range of activities including horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking along miles of jungle trails, as well as canoeing on the Macal River.
“We’re also very proud that our commitment to sustainable green practices has resulted in an eco lodge that is recognised as world class. We’ve always wanted to show that you don’t need to sacrifice luxury to operate an environmentally sound resort,” Ms Fleming said.
