One of the interesting oddities of nature is undoubtedly the sheep frog’s ability to confuse those in its surroundings into thinking there is a different animal in its surroundings by making an unusual sound (a sheep like bleat) not particular to its own species (as croaking is the norm for its amphibious cousins). So when you are walking through the tropical rainforests of Belize and hear what sounds like a sheep in the middle of the forest watch your step because you do not want to step on this wonderful oddity of nature.

Today’s Belize Photo of the Day is the Red Ginger and its scientific name is Alpinia purpurata. The Red Ginger plant, originally from the South Pacific, is a tall, ever-green plant which has bright red floral bracts and inconspicuous white flowers. Read more…

Beautiful location, very friendly staff

This spring was my second trip to Belize and  Chaa Creek Resort. There have been a ton of renovations since 2007! The new pool is an amazing bonus. The sun gets hot mid day, and it is a refreshing way to cool off. I stayed at the jungle camp, very exposed to the elements but clean, and comfortable. There isn’t electricity in the camp, however the lamps are lit at dusk, and it is easy to navigate. Overall, the place is …
