CNN International lists the Great Blue Hole of Belize a top diving site in the world
CNN International has named the Great Blue Hole of Belize a top diving site in the world. According to the Belize Tourism Board, the famous Blue Hole is being recognized as the seventh best spot among fifty locations in a story written by Jade Bremmer.
Recently various internationally known websites like divezone.net, scubatravel.co.uk, worlddivingreview.com and dive.is featured the Great Blue Hole and the Belize Tourism Board believes that these honorable mention helped Mr. Bremer select the Blue Hole for his story.
The designation will give the country of Belize a major boost because CNN International has a huge following of up to two hundred million households around the globe and in the range of half a million visitors online.
The Great Blue Hole is a popular spot for recreational scuba divers who are lured by the opportunity to dive in turquoise water and meet a cadre of fish including gigantic groupers, nurse sharks and many types of reef sharks such as the Caribbean reef shark and the Black tip Shark.
Dive trips to the Great Blue Hole are full day trips which include one dive in the Blue Hole and two further dives in the nearby Barrier reef.
The Great Blue hole was formed during several episodes of quaternary glaciations when sea levels were much lower and the analysis of stalactites found shows that formation took place 153,000, 66,000 and 15,000 years ago.
The Great Blue is also a part of the Belize Barrier Reef System which is a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
