Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Chaa Creek
The staff and management of Chaa Creek wish all of you, wherever you are, a truly wonderful Thanksgiving.
We know that we’ll be taking the time out to be grateful for what we have, which includes you, our many friends and guests from around the world.
You’re the reason why we’re here and you continue to be part of our growth while sustaining our philosophy that yes, you can combine Green, sustainable practices with quality and a certain casual luxury. In fact, our guests’ enthusiasm for responsible travel has contributed tremendously to our growth.
Over the last 30 years Chaa Creek has evolved into a community consisting of over 130 dedicated staff members who in turn support many Belizean families. This allows us to provide educational and career opportunities that have a positive effect on Belize through initiatives such as the Chaa Creek Cares program. Ten per cent of what you pay for accommodation goes directly into environmental and social upliftment programs. We hope our guests sleep soundly knowing that their stay here is actually good for the people and country of Belize.
So we are grateful to our guests in more ways than one….
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, and once again, these are just some of the things we mention around the table as part of our Thanksgiving grace;
living among the sheer beauty and natural abundance of Belize,
the warm, friendly and generous neighbours and colleagues who encouraged us from the onset and continue to support Chaa Creek,
the many visitors who gave and continue to give us invaluable advice, support and goodwill over the years,
our tourism partners who recognise and support Green, sustainable tourism and responsible travel, not just as slogans, but through real action,
our immediate and extended family who nourish, support, provoke, comfort, provide reality checks and most importantly, love, and
the list goes on…
And our wish for all of you is that, amid the craziness to be found in the world, you can also see the beauty, rich diversity and human goodness that doesn’t usually make the news. It’s there in abundance, and it’s wonderful that we take a day to recognise and savour it.
So sitting around the table with the rich smells of turkey (just like the ancient Maya who lived here thousands of years ago and in today’s villages) and home grown food we will be taking a moment to reflect on all this before enthusiastically picking up knife, fork and glass and celebrating Thanksgiving with gusto.
Along with giving thanks we’ll also be wishing for guidance to do what we can to make the world a better place and assist those who have less and need help.
And we’ll also be hoping that all of you out there will be sharing in the tranquillity of nature, family and friends and will join us in recognising that while the world may be far from perfect, there is still so much to be thankful for. Sometimes it’s just a matter of perspective.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Chaa Creek to you and yours!
