Belize Travel News: A New International Airport is Coming

A New International Airport is Coming to Ambergris Caye!

For those of us who enjoy hearing (and reporting) good Belizean eco-tourism news, 2015 has been a banner year. With new international flights and expanded domestic service, including from Tropic Air’s Maya Flats airstrip, close to Chaa Creek, there’s been much to celebrate.

And the good news keeps coming!

According to those travel-savvy folks at Travel Pulse, the Belize government is planning to build a new international airport at Ambergris Caye while improving La Isla Bonita’s infrastructure.

The popular travel site quotes Prime Minister Dean Barrow as saying that the government will “redevelop, redesign and expand” the Basil Jones airstrip into a new international airport.

“I am also happy to announce that Basil Jones will be renamed the Efrain Guerrero International Airport in honour of the recently deceased San Pedro patriot,” Mr Barrow added during a public address at the Independence Day celebrations.

The upgrade of the airstrip to an international airport is part of an on-going development that is making travel to, from and within Belize easier for Belize’s ever-growing legion of global fans.  Whether from North America, Europe, the UK, Asia or anywhere on the planet, travellers can now spend more time enjoying Belize’s many charms and less time getting to and from them.

Frankly, it still amazes us that someone can wake up in, say, Houston in the morning, enjoy a swim and lunch in a rainforest setting at Chaa Creek, and, if they wanted to (but who would want to leave Chaa Creek so soon) be swimming in warm Caribbean waters that evening.

Of course, this ease of travel also cements Chaa Creek’s position as a great home base while in Belize. After you check into your beautifully appointed rooms and perhaps unwind with a swim, all of Belize is at your fingertips, and with Chaa Creek’s wide range of all-inclusive Belize vacation packages, you can enjoy Belize’s magnificent rainforests, Maya temples, sacred caves and ancient cities, the many Caribbean Sea attractions and so much more in one easy, seamless vacation for one surprisingly affordable price.

How easy is that? For one set fee, all of your accommodation, meals, transfers, tours, activities and enjoyment of quality amenities at Belize’s best eco-resorts are taken care of. From the time you leave home until you return there’s nothing to plan, worry about or – except for incidentals such as alcoholic drinks – pay extra for.

And with the new Mayan Temples and Jungle Adventure Vacation Package all-inclusive Belize vacation package, you can split your vacation between Chaa Creek and the Bolontiku Boutique Hotel on Guatemalas Lake Petén Itza near the stunning ancient city of Tikal. Again – all during one carefree seamless holiday and for one set price.

And don’t worry about Belize getting too popular or becoming like some other world-famous destinations; it’s still the same laidback, friendly, uncrowded, lovely little country people fell in love with in the first place. It’s just easier.

And isn’t that what a vacation should be?
