Belize Photo of the Day: The Belize and Garifuna Flag in Dangriga

Belize and Garifuna Flag in Dangriga

Today’s Belize photo of the day is the Belize and Garifuna Flag in Dangriga. Today also marks a special day since every year on November 19, we celebrate Garifuna Settlement Day throughout the country of Belize.

Being a very festive culture, on this national holiday, several coastal towns and cities celebrate by having special ceremonies, singing and dancing Punta, and playing Garifuna drums. An example of a special ceremony is the reenactment of when the first Garinagu settlers came to Belizean shores in their small boats.

The main locales where you will find a lot of activities are in Southern Belize – at places such as Hopkins, Dangriga and Punta Gorda Town.

Fun fact of the day:

The Garifuna flag is very colorful and each shade has a special meaning. The yellow represents the sun, the white represents peace, and black represents the color of their people.
