Chaa Creek Announces New Maya 2012 Contest Date

In light of recent global events such as the devastation of Hurricane Sandy and the close-run US Presidential election, Belize’s Lodge at Chaa Creek has extended the closing date by two weeks for submissions to its “Ultimate Maya 2012 Winter Solstice Experience” contest, worth over US$4,600, owner Lucy Fleming announced today.

“We’ve received some very interesting and creative submissions so far, and we thought it would be a shame if some people missed out because of the impact of recent events on their lives. It’s been an extraordinary month, and we think it’s only fair to extend the deadline for essay submissions.

“So we’re now moving the deadline from November 9 to November 23 2012 to give more people a chance to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Ms Fleming said.
The Lodge at Chaa Creek is hosting Belize’s definitive Maya Winter Solstice celebration during the week of the Winter Solstice, which occurs on December 21 2012, and has been the subject of the Hollywood blockbuster film, “2012” and attracted global media attention including countless internet articles and blogs.

While some people propose that the Maya predicted the world to end on that date, others believe that it is a positive event that will herald in a new era of human consciousness. It is, in fact, the completion of a thousands-year old cycle recorded on the Maya Long Count calendar since before the time of Christ and has been of interest to scholars and researchers for decades.

The Lodge at Chaa Creek, which is located in the Maya heartland of Belize, is honouring the event with a special, all-inclusive “Ultimate Maya 2012 Winter Solstice Experience” Belize vacation package and is currently constructing a representational Maya Village centre to be the site of educational activities and seminars.

The “Ultimate Maya 2012 Winter Solstice Experience contest” is offering a double eight day/seven night all-inclusive Belize 2012 Maya Winter Solstice vacation package worth over US$4,600 to the competition winners. Ms Fleming said that contest winners will enjoy a private bungalow at Chaa Creek’s Macal River Camp and the same activities that make up the deluxe 2012 Maya Winter Solstice vacation packages.

Ms Fleming said the exclusive Maya Winter Solstice package also includes horseback or walking tours through jungle trails to ancient Maya temple sites, canoeing on the Macal River to San Ignacio Town and the Cahal Pech royal palace, tours of the beautiful temple of Xunantunich, full day tours to the ancient metropolis of Caracol, half day expeditions exploring the Maya underworld via canoe within the Barton Creek Ceremonial Cave, tours of the organic Maya Farm, and full day snorkelling trip on the world famous Belize Barrier Reef.

Contest winners will also have complete access to all activities and attractions of the Chaa Creek 365 acre private rainforest reserve, including the renowned natural History Centre, Butterfly Farm, Jungle Lounge, restaurant and pool, she added.

“The first release of packages sold out very quickly, and we only have a few bookings left outside of what we set aside for the contest, so this is a real opportunity to participate in something that is truly extraordinary.

“To enter, people just need to go to Chaa Creek’s Facebook page and click ‘like’ and ‘share’ under the competition. They then write a 300 word essay on ‘Why I want to experience the 2012 Maya Winter Solstice at Chaa Creek’ and email it to marketing(@) with full name, email address and telephone number. That’s all there is to it, and details can be found on our Belize Travel blog and Facebook page.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that this will be one of the most comprehensive, authentic and enjoyable ways to take part in one of the most anticipated events in the history of the world while also getting a hands-on education about the fascinating Maya culture, and we’re all looking forward to it with great excitement. We’re also looking forward to receiving more creative essays, which have been great so far. There’s a lot of talent out there,” she added.
