If you are going to Belize then your experience will not be complete unless you spend some time in the jungle. Chaa Creek is the best of the best when it comes to resorts in the Cayo district. The tree house cabana in which we stayed was fabulous. It was very roomy, clean, had a spectacular deck that included a hot tub and overlooked the Macal river. We happened to be there during a winter cold front (coldest low temp, 56 F, since ’81) and so it was a little cool. The cabanas do not have glass in the windows, only screens. Combine that with the tatched roof which is optimized for hot temperatures and the temperature in your room is actually less than that outside! That’s good when it’s hot but not so good when it’s chilly. Nonetheless, the staff was great and we had fun learning all about the jungle flora and fauna from our nature guide, David. Canoeing on the river was also a great experience and we would recommend canoeing downstream to San Ignacio and having them pick you up, about a 2 hour paddle. As is true for most places in Belize, the food is just average. It’s not bad but not great either. That’s really the only negative that I can think of associated with this very unique Belize resort. Oh, and the spa there was also one of the highlights with their expert massage therapists.
