My way to Chaa Creek
By: Nuri Galicia, 11 years old
The following is a submission of one of our applicants to this year’s Chaa Creek Eco Kids Summer Camp.
Officially known as the Children’s Summer Camp Scholarship Program, the annual event gives 24 young Belizeans between the ages of 8 and 13 a chance to learn about their natural world through a mix of adventure, social interaction, fun and hands-on education aimed at instilling a sense of wonder and responsibility for the environment.
The Eco Kids are selected after submitting a 300 word written essay which is reviewed and shortlisted by the Chaa Creek scholarship committee with the winners going on to attend the summer camp.
Chaa Creek will be providing all lodging, three healthy meals and snacks each day, structured educational activities, arts and craft materials, tee shirts, 24-hour camp counselor supervision, and guided tours conducted by licensed naturalist guides.
Good luck potential Eco Kids!
My way to Chaa Creek
From the first time I read about Eco-Kids Camp 2013 I got very excited especially when resorts like Chaa Creek take into consideration the environment. Thanks for the opportunity offered to the children to have fun, excitement and outdoor adventure. How I wish other resort would do like wise. This kind of programs is what we need for it help us children to learn to appreciate life and nature.
Let me tell you about myself. My name is Nuri David Galicia and I am 11 years old. I live at Bullet Tree Falls in the Cayo District and my favorite sport is baseball. I have no brother or sisters only my lovely parents Florence and David. Last summer I was part of a chest camp at Hodes which I enjoyed.
Being the only child in my family I am very optimistic that I will be part of Eco Kids 2013. The reason why I want to go is bond with other children my age. Also it will be a wonderful experience with Nature’s beauty for I enjoy birds and hiking. At the campfire we share funny stories and jokes. Through-out my life I have never been on horse back, so I am looking forward to have a ride on a horse. This scholarship will allow me to learn more about gardening for at school we practice gardening. It will be great for I will know unfamiliar species and expand my knowledge, for teachers can teach us only about name and their functions but not really show us the real plant. If given an opportunity to be at the camp I will treasure every moment there.
Thanks for catering for many scholars through the program this is essential to help endless numbers of children like me to be a part of a camp and be a part of a life changing experience.
