Why I want to be an Eco-Kid
By: Olivia Frisinger, 10 years old
The following is a submission of one of our applicants to this year’s Chaa Creek Eco Kids Summer Camp.
Officially known as the Children’s Summer Camp Scholarship Program, the annual event gives 24 young Belizeans between the ages of 8 and 13 a chance to learn about their natural world through a mix of adventure, social interaction, fun and hands-on education aimed at instilling a sense of wonder and responsibility for the environment.
The Eco Kids are selected after submitting a 300 word written essay which is reviewed and shortlisted by the Chaa Creek scholarship committee with the winners going on to attend the summer camp.
Chaa Creek will be providing all lodging, three healthy meals and snacks each day, structured educational activities, arts and craft materials, tee shirts, 24-hour camp counselor supervision, and guided tours conducted by licensed naturalist guides.
Good luck potential Eco Kids!
Why I want to be an Eco-Kid
My name is Olivia Frisinger and I am ten years old. I am related to San Pedro and Colorado. I believe we should save animals habitats. I hope to take pictures of colorful animals. I love to go horseback riding. I love hiking to see wildlife.
I live in San Pedro Ambergris Caye. Now I have been living in Colorado for the last six months. It is not the same environment in Colorado; no beaches or golf Cart, but in San Pedro not as much wildlife popping out of the forest. I want to do something fun for the summer so I wanted to go to Eco Camp.
I love the tropical jungles and I want to know about the animals to save their habitats. I know that a lot of the jungle is being destroyed worldwide. I want none of the colorful animals to become extinct. The way to start helping the rainforest is to learn all about it. I want to go to your camp to start learning.
I have my own special camera that can take pictures of fast moving animals and people. I have taken animals photos and I am learning to edit photos. People love my photos. I hope to capture photos of animals in the wild to make it more interesting.
I have been horseback riding. I love horses. When I went horseback riding it was for two hours so I am used to it. I hope I am going to ride a horse by my self.
I have been hiking a lot with my grandpa. It is so much fun. Some times we see wildlife. My grandpa is a naturalist at Mueller State Park. He is teaching me different types of trees, how to recognize different animal tracks, scratches on trees and animal scat. I find it all interesting.
I hope you would pick me because I want to take very good pictures, you might even put one of my pictures on your website. People think my pictures are good. I also want to learn about animals to save their habitats. I want to go somewhere to have a lot of fun so you are the only thing that sounds very fun.
