The Belize government is planning to build a new international airport at Ambergris Caye while improving La Isla Bonita’s infrastructure. Prime Minister Dean Barrow said that the government will “redevelop, redesign and expand” the Basil Jones airstrip into a new international airport. The upgrade of the airstrip to an international airport is part of an on-going development that is making travel to, from and within Belize easier for Belize’s ever-growing legion of global fans. Whether from North America, Europe, the UK, Asia or anywhere on the planet, travellers can now spend more time enjoying Belize’s many charms and less time getting to and from them.

Southwest Airlines is preparing to fly from Houston to Belize in October 2015 and according to Southwest’s Senior Communications Advisor, Brad Hawkins, the airline will allow passengers to and from Belize to carry two bags of up to 50 pounds each for free, which, last time we checked, can tack up to a couple hundred dollars on the price of a flight with competing airlines.
