Last week we made a surprise visit to Bishop Martin R.C. School in the Santiago Juan Layout, San Ignacio Cayo. Principal Abimael Waight, teachers and 468 students happily welcomed the pack-a-pound program team.
The Belize government is planning to build a new international airport at Ambergris Caye while improving La Isla Bonita’s infrastructure. Prime Minister Dean Barrow said that the government will “redevelop, redesign and expand” the Basil Jones airstrip into a new international airport. The upgrade of the airstrip to an international airport is part of an on-going development that is making travel to, from and within Belize easier for Belize’s ever-growing legion of global fans. We just received the news that Tropic Air, Belize’s friendly local air service, is organising a road show to promote Belize’s many charms to the people of Chile next December, and coming on the heels of Tropic Air’s successful Colombian road show of last June, and following the news that COPA Air is inaugurating a twice-weekly Panama-Belize run December 2015, we can’t help but feel that the country formally known as Mother Nature’s Best Kept Secret is now anything but.

Although the 2015 Eco-Kids SummerCamp is officially over, the lessons learned and the knowledge obtained about how to be ecologically sustainable and responsible will never leave the campers. But, more importantly, the bonds these campers made with each other, the counselors, and the Chaa Creek staff are now well molded!
The journey of knowledge continued on Thursday at the Eco-Kids Camp as the campers learned about land conservation. After breakfast and arts and crafts, when the kids constructed their own wallets made of reused cardboard and recycled tape, they were summoned to the Chaa Creek Maya Organic Farm for a tour with big boss himself Mr. Mick!
