I’m going to Belize in 2 weeks! I have been invited by the Belize Tourist Board on a “FAM” trip. This is travel industry lingo for “familiarization”. I, along with a bunch of other travel industry professionals, are going on a somewhat insane itinerary: we will visit 27 hotels in 5 days! I wouldn’t call that fun, but many of these are places I have heard of for years but never gotten to, and I am looking forward to seeing them. We will be staying in San Ignacio, Mountain Pine Ridge, Placencia, Hopkins, and San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. I’ll be posting more about the trip when I get there.
Host to one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, Belize provides the perfect getaway and hands on research for students studying evolutionary biology, botany, biodiversity, or even sustainable farming methods. The country has more than 150 species of animals, 540 species of birds, 151 species of amphibians and reptiles, and over 3,400 species of plants. One of Belize’s most popular destinations, for both vacation and field research is Cha Creek, a tributary of the Macal River located in the western region of Belize.
“When you think about it, Chaa Creek is a great family vacation destination in itself. It‘s also the perfect base for exploring Belize’s beautiful rainforests, Caribbean beaches and the spectacular Belize Barrier Reef as well as Maya temples, sacred caves and archaeological sites. “No matter what your age or interests, there’s something to do at Chaa Creek, from exploring the miles of rainforest trails on foot, horseback or mountain bike, canoeing the beautiful Macal River, visiting our on-site Maya temples and sites or taking part in nature walks and tours.”
We should help the environment by recycling; reusing, reducing .some of the ways we can help is carpooling throwing garbage in its proper place, not burning garbage, planting more tree, using less electricity ,and more solar power. If we do not keep our environment clean it would no longer be a beautiful and special place to life our life. To be an eco kid you have to be loyal to the earth and to help to restore the natural beauty of the world and save some species in danger of extinction.
Yes, the competition entry essays have all been submitted and carefully read, and the winners have been selected. And now, 24 very lucky young people aged between eight and 13 years old will be taking part in an incredible opportunity to experience, up-close and personal, Belize’s beautiful natural environment while learning about how to help preserve this stunning national treasure and ensure its survival into the future.
Today June 21st is summer solstice which means that today will be the longest day and the shortest night of the year. According to Wikipedia, summer solstice occurs when the Earth’s and moon axial tilt is most inclined towards the sun which is why the days near the solstice have the most daylight of any days of the year.

But what attracts me the most is the traditional healing and the three R’s, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Reduce the pollution, Reuse glass bottles and Recycle plastic is all very important because they are a basic rule that makes our world a better place to live in. I live at a ranch so traditional healing sounds good because almost every day someone gets a bruise or scrape or a hurt. And before I forget my school makes us do posters for Earth Day.
According to the Belize Tourism Board, “This award recognizes a licensed hotel that offers a gateway to paradise where service exceeds excellence while being engulfed with the positive attitude and attentiveness of staff, offering exceptional value for money, outstanding facilities and amenities, remarkable ambiance, innovation and the ability to provide visitors with a true sample of the Belize brand”.
All of Andrew Harper’s recommended properties possess exceptional character, a commitment to classic hospitality and a profound sense of place. Mr. Harper does not evaluate hotels by means of a checklist, but uses his three decades of experience to distinguish the truly enchanting from the merely excellent. The Lodge at Chaa Creek is delighted to be among the best of the best properties worldwide to receive his recommendation, which came initially in 1992.
Gardening has always been a hobby of mine, and I have heard so much about Chaa Creek garden. I would love to have the adventure and experience of going to your summer camp. If I am accepted, it will be the first time that I will go to a summer camp.
We only have one planet and we need to and we need to conserve our resources. Imagine the destruction one little disruption like pollution, deforestation, soil erosion, etc may cause. Pollution is a serious problem. The contamination of the environment may lead to diseases and creates an inhabitable place. It is very important that we have a clean and safe place to live in. If we don’t conserve our ecosystem endangered species of plants and animals may die out. This affects the food webs and the normal conditions of the habitats.
Belize is a wonderful melting pot of culinary extremes; a tantalizing mixture of Caribbean spices, African vegetables and Central American cooking styles can be found in all corners of Belize. The seafood is delicious and the lobster is world-class, particularly along the Northeast part of the country. The following is a list of my favorite foods in Belize
Belize has many natural beauties which we need to protect and preserve. We as young children growing up in today’s society need to be educated at first hand experiences and learn how to protect our jewel in the Belize forest. By educating us about our natural resources, it helps to be aware of the importances and reasons why God created them.
I want to be an eco-kid for many reasons first of all I want to experience the outdoors and most of the activities you listed in your letter and secondly I am a kid and we kids like to run around and try new things, well some of us like it.
I read the advertisement over and over it sound very interesting I said this is awesome; I want to learn about biodiversity of plant and animals in the environment; conserving natural resources and more so to learn more about the ancient Maya history of which I am. I want to learn their culture including their traditional healing medicinal plant. I am also interesting in bird watching knowing all the species. If I cannot afford to go to a high school then I would at least be able to something in my life. It is very interesting to learn more things when you are young it will help others get more involve. Although I am a Maya I want to get first hand information about sites that our ancestor made.

I want to be a eco kid so that I may learn to recycle things and make a better place out of our country. No matter how small I am I can always help my home country, especially if I live in Belize.
I really love nature and everything there is in nature like the birds when they sing, the rushing waters in rivers, creeks and lakes, the noise of the wind, and all the little animals you can find in the wild. I especially like the colourful attracting birds like the scarlet macaws, blue jays, toucans, and parrots.
In our country Belize we need to educate the people more about healthy, clean and Eco friendlier ways of living in order to have a beautiful Belize. We as proud Belizeans should stand up and let people know the proper ways to dispose garbage and other waste. We need to reuse, like reuse plastic bottles or old tires to plant different plants in. Reduce, reducing the amount of electricity you use or water, instead of using an automobile walk or ride a bike. Limit the amount of gas you use because the car exhaust is damaging the ozone layer and making more hazardous rays coming in and being trapped in our atmosphere making it hotter.

The students had come to Chaa Creek Lodge for a tour of Chaa Creek’s Maya Organic farm and orchards, Natural History Center and the Lodge’s Blue Morpho Butterfly Farm.
